In an industry characterized by perpetual change and growing complexity, continuing training has become mandatory. It is also provides reassurance for consumers and investors. A better-trained personal advisor will be better equipped to guide them. However, the future of this “diploma” is in jeopardy if rigorous control is not exercised over its holders.

Regulatory organizations in the industry have understood this. They too are now clamouring for tight control over attendance at training sessions.

That is why the Insurance and Investments Convention is once again using optical readers to control CECs, a proven measure. Here’s how it works:

Participants’ name tags will contain a bar code that identifies their permit number. In fact, each conference goer was invited to supply this number when they registered if they wanted to earn CECs.

• Each of the conferences is numbered.

• Employees with optical readers will scan the conference goers’ tags when they enter and exit the conference.
To obtain 1 CEC, each conference goer must have attended at least 55 minutes of the conference.

• Bear in mind that the CEC control officers are not authorized to grant exemptions for any reason. Supervisors will also be on hand to ensure that these control measures are applied.

• All information contained in the readers is downloaded to software that counts the records and then establishes a report for all of the CECs to issue. This report contains the following information: name, address, permit number, number and name of the conference and time entered and exited the conference. If everything is in order, the participant will receive the CEC. Participants must attend at least 55 minutes of a conference to receive the CECs.

• Before each conference begins, moderators will inform the participants that they cannot be granted exemptions for any reason whatsoever, and that they must stay at the conference for at least 55 minutes to obtain CECs. Posters at the convention will outline the CEC control system procedures and remind conference goers that no exemptions will be granted for any reason.
